The Earth Underfoot
Baca Float Land Development, Ltd., and the Barrio de Tubac master planned community are proud to announce the donation of approximately 10-acres of property to the Archaeological Conservancy in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Conservancy, in conjunction with the Tubac Historical Society, and the Arizona State Museum, will acquire title to the property to preserve the significant Spanish Colonial artifacts dating back to 1752. The remains of over 32 buildings and features lie beneath this 10-acre tract.
Jim Walker, Director of the Archaeological Conservancy, states, "this [10-arcres] is Arizona's most significant archaeological resource and the project that we're planning will include mapping, back filling, trails, training docents and signs. Tours may be offered as often as daily during the height of tourist season." He also goes on to say that the Conservancy is "very grateful for the generous donation of land by the Baca Float Land Development, Ltd. This project demonstrates how development and the goal of preserving historical resources can work hand in hand."
Jacque Brasher, broker of Brasher Real Estate in Tubac and a general partner in Baca Float Land Development, adds, "in addition to the great historic, esoteric, and educational value which this site represents, I think it also shows that for over 300 years people have come to Tubac because of its climate and beauty. This hasn't changed. Fortune Small Business magazine has included Tubac as one of the top 10 small retirement communities in the country. It appears our generation is just beginning to figure out what the Spanish and Mexican cultures have known for centuries!"
People have always come to Tubac because they wanted something different - an added quality to their lives not found in the confines of metropolitan life. The people who came before us were able to carve out a place in a wilderness and survive because they established a balance between their environment and development, a balance between need and want, and a respect for what was already here. It is this spirit that has guided the developers of the Barrio de Tubac.
