The Tubac Lifestyle
Barrio de Tubac rests at the edge of the Artists' community of Tubac, and the local lifestyle blends cultural richness with history and easy access to the surrounding high desert. Tubac residents reflect a diversity of backgrounds, but there is a shared emphasis on a more relaxed lifestyle that's enhanced by art, fine dining and close proximity to the outdoors. The Tubac Center of the Arts provides a full season of activities including both the visual and performing arts.
The Tubac shopping district offers a rich mix of locally created fine art, furniture, sculpture and pottery, along with products from around Southern Arizona and Mexico. Many local homes have been decorated entirely by the work of local furniture craftsman, painters and sculptors. The village offers visitors over 80 shops, studios and art galleries, as well as the Tubac Center of the Arts and the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park. Tubac is proud of its several exceptional restaurants which offer distinctively local cuisine, as well as Mexican and Italian fare. Tubac has a Visitors Center, its own Montessori School, two churches, a new community center and library, and two parks.
Tubac is centrally located for people wanting a variety of outdoor activities. Residents enjoy backpacking, mountain biking, birding and off-roading on Forest Service maintained roads. The Anza Trail invites hikers to explore a rich and unique riparian desert habitat. The trail travels along the Santa Cruz river for about three miles to the Tumacacori National Historic Park.
